About Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group is a creative organization dedicated to creating exciting and innovative work in a wide variety of media. Founded in 1987 by Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris Wink, The Blue Man Group first made waves in the underground performance art scene in New York City. Donning identical black jumpsuits, skullcaps, and vivid blue greasepaint, the trio performed regularly in Central Park, Dixon Place, Performance Space 122, and the Wooster Group's Performing Garage.

Blue Man Group is best known for its award-winning theatrical productions which critics have described as "ground-breaking," "hilarious," "visually stunning" and "musically powerful." These performances feature three enigmatic bald and blue characters who take the audience through a multi-sensory experience that combines theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville into a form of entertainment that is like nothing else. People from all over the world, from all walks of life and from all age groups have become fans of Blue Man Group's show in New York, Boston, Chicago and Las Vegas. Blue Man Group announced plans to open a fifth theatrical production in Berlin in May, 2004.

Blue Man Group is also known for its unique style of music which is played on a variety of invented instruments. Blue Man Group's 1999 debut album, AUDIO was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category. One reviewer called it "a glorious wall of sound."

In spring of 2003, The Blue Man Group released their second album, entitled The Complex. This new album incorporated vocalists for the first time into their work (featuring such artists as Dave Matthews, Tracy Bonham, and Venus Hum, among others), and transformed their music from what was previously the instrumental category to full-fledged Rock ?n? Roll. The Complex Rock Tour was hailed as ?awesome musicianship enhanced by unadulterated good humor and fun? by The Chicago Sun-Times.

Today, The Blue Man Group operates out of four venues including: The Astor Place Theatre, NY; The Charles Playhouse, Boston; The Briar Street Theatre, Chicago; and The Luxor Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas. They have also appeared in music festivals such as Wango Tango, Coachella, and Area 2. In addition to shows at the regular venues, The Complex Tour kicked off in spring of 2003, and side by side with Tracy Bonham and Venus Hum, the Blue Man began exploring areas previously ?untouched by blue?. The Blue Men have also recently appeared in television commercials, music videos, sitcoms, awards shows, and late-night talk shows.
