About Cold Play

The four members of Cold Play met whilst attending the University College of London around 1996. They formed the band together over a span of a few months; and from then on, its history.

1998:
*Cold Play's debut, the Safety EP is recorded in April and 500 copies are issued in May.
*Phil Harvey becomes the manager.
*The band appears at the In the City showcase for unsigned bands.
*The Safety EP is noticed by various record and publishing companies and are put on the list of bands to watch for the following year.

1999:
*Cold Play releases the single Brothers and Sisters.
*Cold Play signs to Parlophone records.
*Finals are taken and passed by all four Cold Play band members. Good job to them.
*5000 copies of Blue Room EP are released late in the year with five new tracks, and the EP wins even more recognition for the group.

2000:
*Cold Play starts out the year playing in the NME Carling Premier Tour.
*The single Shiver is released in March and becomes Cold Play's first top 40 hit.
*The band does their first headline tour in June.
*The single Yellow is released in June after much anticipation and enters the charts at number 4.
*The debut album, Parachutes, is released in the UK and met with very high critical acclaim. It enters the charts at number 1 and ends up selling over 300,000 copies in the UK.
*Parachutes is nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
*Cold Play begins their UK tour for Parachutes.
*Parachutes is released in the US on November 7.
*Yellow starts to receive huge airplay in the US.

2001:
*Cold Play is nominated for various Brit awards, perform at the ceremony, and win for Best British Group and Best British Album.
*The band wins an NME award for Best New Artist, Best Single for Yellow, and Session of the Year for the BBC's "Radio 1 Evening Session."
*Cold Play begins a US tour and are more and more well-received as time goes on, but Chris develops a voice sickness and the band has to cancel part of the tour.
*The band appears on various US tv shows, such as Saturday Night Live, Conan O'Brien, and David Letterman.
*Cold Play schedules some European tour dates and again need to pull some of them due to Chris' voice infection.
*Cold Play finishes up their North American Tour and play some extra dates and festivals throughout the summer and fall whilst beginning work on their second album.
*In the midst of hard work, Cold Play reveals information about the new album, including some of the songs in consideration that have recently been played at live shows.


2002:
*The first part of the year is pretty quiet for Cold Play, but new album info begins to be announced in late spring and the release date is announced as June 18 and delayed until August 27.
*The first single from A Rush of Blood to the Head, In My Place is debuted on June 17.
*The In My Place video is debuted on June 22.
*The In My Place CD single is released August 6.
*Cold Play has a slew of tour dates scheduled in Europe in July, US club dates in August, US arena dates in September, and UK arena dates in October.
*A Rush of Blood to the Head is finally released August 27, to the great happiness of fans and acclaim of critics.


2003:
*Cold Play spent the first 3-4 months of the year touring the US and Canada, some time after that in Europe in March-April, and some time after that in May-June back in the US and Canada.
*The band wins a slew of awards for A Rush of Blood to the Head, including three Grammy nominations which resulted in two Grammy wins.
